We are looking for a housemate to share our large 5 person Wallingford cooperative house. We have a spacious, beautiful five bedroom home in north Wallingford with wood floors, lots of light, a big garden, nice kitchen, and great sunsets. We are something of an urban farm and we raise chickens, vegetables, flowers, and occasionally ducks and rabbits. We keep an extra basement guest room for hosting guests and travelers. We have hosted many workawayers which has been a great experience.
We are conveniently located just four blocks from Wallingford's business core and are within walking distance from many great spots such as the Good Shepherd Center, UW, and Woodland/Green Lake Parks. We are also close to major bus lines such as the #62 and #44. Our neighborhood has a lot of community spirit and we often organize neighborhood potlucks, block parties and street paintings.
We are active, creative, and community minded people with a range of ages (27 - 65) and interests. We live cooperatively sharing food, house chores, and some meals. We enjoy cooking, gardening, community potlucks, and raising some of our own food. About once a week we invite friends and might have a larger group around for dinner. OK, that was pre-Covid, but hopefully those days will come again soon. And maybe weekly we project a movie on the wall of the living room. We enjoy hosting travelers - as well as traveling ourselves.
We are not a vegetarian house, but we don’t eat meat with every meal. We eat lots of legumes and often bake bread. We like to eat good food, but we are not purists. In addition to raising our own food we also shop at Costco. We are looking for a fun, creative person who values community, communication, and shared living. Our expectation is that each housemate cooks dinner one night a week. Sometimes we make fancy meals and other times a simple stir fry.
The "No's"...No tobacco smokers and, unfortunately, no indoor pets. We love them but aren't ready to live with them yet. Also, no television in our shared space.
The available bedroom is on the main floor and has east and south facing windows and gets a lot of sunlight. Rent is $900 per month plus utilities. Utilities run between $100 and $200 per month.
